SUN, MOON & STARS Line Drawing with Patterns

What will I learn?

  • Balance of design in a designated space
  • using lines in many different ways
  • when and where to add color
  • marker vs. pencil or selected tool
What do I need?
  • Pencil, white paper
  • Marker (one color), white paper
  • Colored pencil (one color), white paper
  • clear sidewalk area, chalk
  • clear area of dirt, something to make a pattern in the earth
Start with a circle anywhere on your paper or drawing surface. You can trace or draw because it does not need to be perfect!
Add radial lines from your circle. They can be any type of line. Go back and thicken all lines to make them look like they come from the circle.
Start choosing patterns to add to each radial area extending from your circle. You can fill in all areas or create a negative/positive pattern.

Use all of your different ideas.

If you only have a pencil, the project still works.

Add a larger circle and use just straight lines.

Think about adding color! Here is a warm pattern using colored pencil. You can use crayon or any medium you have handy.

Fill in areas as you are inspired. I will post a completed project when it is done. Have Fun!

Finally finished and this is my version of "sun." I will post others as I get them done. If you send copies of your work to my email, I will post it in our online gallery!
